Building My Rebreather BLINDFOLDED — Can You Beat Me

Somebody challenged me: how fast can you assemble your Symbios? And then a sleeping mask got added to the deal.

My son Joepie checked that the mask really was sealed.

So that was that. Build the unit without seeing anything, everything in the crate, and find out what happens.

Why this is more than a game

It is the holidays and this is nonsense, I will admit that straight away. But there is something underneath it.

Assembling a rebreather is a sequence of actions you should know well enough that you do not have to think about them. Blindfold yourself and you find out immediately where you are running on routine and where you actually glance down every time. Those second ones are exactly the places where things go wrong on a bad day.

I give no commentary during the recording. I am only trying not to make mistakes.

What I learned along the way

There is an A and a B, and they are easy to swap. What helps: start on the right hand side, because that is where the water trap sits. Fix it alongside that and the rest falls into place.

That is the sort of thing you only notice when you do it without your eyes.
