Zandeiland 4 is the best known dive site in the Vinkeveense Plassen and probably in the country. The island gives easy access to the water and holds a genuinely varied underwater landscape: wrecks, sunken objects and a healthy ecosystem. Access and visibility together make it suitable for beginners and experienced divers.
Why dive here
The site is set up for diving. You get:
- Easy entry points with jetties
- A range of sunken objects, among them a bus, boats and cars
- Training platforms at six and eighteen metres, useful for courses and drills
- Visibility to ten metres, thanks to a sand bottom and little silt
- Free parking directly at the entry
What is down there
The sunken bus
One of the most recognisable objects in the lakes. It sits at around ten metres and is a standard stop on any dive here.
Wrecks and boats
Several wrecks are scattered through the area, from small craft to larger hulls.
Cars and other objects
Various cars and other items lie across the bottom, which makes for an unusually cluttered and interesting environment.
Steep walls and the deeper zones
For technical divers Zandeiland 4 reaches fifty-two metres. The sand workings left steep walls that give the site its structure.
Reaching the outlying objects by scooter
Beyond the fixed objects inside the marked area, there are wrecks and structures spread through the lakes that are within reach on a DPV. Worth it for divers who want to go further than the standard route.
