Below the surface of the Vinkeveense Plassen, at Zandeiland 4, lies one of the most recognisable dive objects in the country: an intact passenger coach, deliberately sunk as an attraction for divers of every level.
Location and depth
The bus sits inside the marked dive zone at Zandeiland 4, an area buoyed in red and white and kept clear of other water sports. That makes it a safe and legible place to dive. Sources differ on its exact depth, but this part of the lake runs to thirty-eight metres. A line runs from the platform at seventeen metres to several of the sunken objects, the bus among them.
Diving it
The water here is clear enough that the bus is often visible from a distance. The vehicle is largely intact and you can swim around it and partly through it, which makes it useful for underwater photography and for navigation training. It also shelters pike, perch and freshwater crayfish.
Who it suits
Zandeiland 4 is open to beginners and experienced divers alike. The platform at ten metres makes it a practical place for courses and skills dives. For anyone after more, the depth around the bus and the steep sand walls give room to build experience on deeper dives.
